Many people asked me the questions why I chose India to do my Master in Business Administration, here are the 5 reasons to do your MBA in India:

1. Fees are affordable

The fees for a higher graduation are affordable compared to the education in some other countries. But it depends on the college that you will pursue your studies but it is usually affordable, as far as I know the higher fees for 2 years of MBA from the colleges that I tried to get an admission, were around $18,000.

2. India is now among the appealing destination for education

Nowadays, not only African people but also people from Europe, US and others consider now coming in India for studies. Many Indian universities are now among the top 100 education in the world and offers a great education.

3. The opportunity to obtain a foreign degree at lower cost in India

There are some foreign colleges which have another branch in India or are doing through a joint venture through an Indian institution. It means that you will be able to receive a foreign degree in India with the foreign system but the education will probably be a combination of the Indian and the foreign educations depending on the University.

4. To gain a Better knowledge of the business world

Doing an MBA will also help you to gain a better understanding of the business world and to use it in your career. India gives you two prospect in their teaching, depending on the college you are studying, they can teach you either about the Indian economy and business works, or a combination of the Indian economy and the world's economy (especially the U.S.A), both are very interesting subjects to study.

Well, this is my top 5 reason to do an MBA in India, I would recommend people to do their MBA in India, but they have to get ready to accept a different set of culture and mind as living in another country is not as easy as it sounds. It requires efforts, sacrifices and a really strong will to succeed.

Top 10 reasons to study in India

This time I will give you the top 10 reasons to do your studies in India. This will be solely based on my own experience. Here they are:

1. Cultural shock

Everyone who came here at least once in India will tell you that. The day that you arrive in India, and particularly in big cities such as Mumbai or Delhi, it is a cultural shock by itself you don’t know what to think; it’s like they are showing you multiple facets in once. The day that I arrived here the flight landed in Mumbai then from Mumbai I had to travel to Pune on the same day. The company brought me here sent someone to pick me up at the airport with a cab, and then we had to do 3-4 hours of route just to reach Pune. Believe me, it’s a thing that I can’t describe it was like seeing multiple different things in once. India is loud, crowded, sometimes dirty in some area, and beautiful also at the same time. I was going through weird emotions in one go.

2. The possibility to meet different culture

In Pune, like in Delhi, you will encounter with people from different countries and culture. It is something that we don’t have that much in my country but here I was able to meet so much people from different countries and hearing about what their culture is amazing.

3. Teaching experience

I love the teaching experience that I had in India; it was interactive, entertaining and educative also. Through projects and assignment I was able to learn new things by myself and defend it in the class, for a guy as shy as me it is a progress by itself. But the teaching depends on the universities, my experience happened to be great.

4. Learn how to bargain

In India, one thing that you will learn without expectation is the bargaining; here we have to bargain when we have to take an auto who doesn’t want to use the meter or bicycle rickshaw, or buying something on the street or some shops in the market. I learnt the bargaining process here only and believe me it is exhausting at times especially when you are tired or not in the mood. Although I have to admit sometimes when you are not in the mood it doesn't help.

5. The food

As a foodie, I love the food in Delhi despite the difficulties to find the traditional food from my country which can sometimes be really expensive or unavailable. But that doesn't stop me to try tasting different dishes everyday, from Indian food (Gulab Jamun and Afghani chicken are among my favorites) to European food or Chinese food and so forth. This is one of the reasons that I love Delhi; you can even get food at 4 am in the morning if you know the good contacts and if you live near the grocery shop 24/7 which is open everyday at any time, even at 5 am. This is something that we don’t have in Congo. But be careful, or else, it will be quite pricey for you.

6. The opportunities to learn a little bit more about the Indian history and culture

Here I have the opportunity to learn a little bit about the Indian history and culture; I was just able to understand a small grasp of it. It is quite fascinating itself, instructive on the same time and if you are really open mind you will discover that we are not that much different itself. Please note that the Indian history itself is very complex and not easy to grasp, but as I said if you keep yourself open minded it worth it.

7. The faculty are interactive and insightful

Here I was able to study in a university were the sessions were interactive. The faculties were able to share their insights and ask for students’ opinions also it was overall good. And I discovered also that some faculties are more open minded than the ones in my country.

9. The festivals

Here Hindu festivals are amazing, especially Diwali and Holi. During Holi, prepare yourself to be wet when you will go out, if you are planning to participate to the festival, wear something that you will not use a lot, I usually wear clothes that I know it won't be a big deal when I will be tainted with different colors.

10. The opportunity to find out who you really are

Studying abroad does things to you, and things that I have learnt here, the ordeals that I went through every day, I believe made me a different person that I prefer compared to who I was in Congo. Here I was able to overcome issues that I had to deal with and found out who I really am; reinforce my views on the world’s politics, society and people itself. For that, I owe it to India, I don’t know what my life would have been if I had made a different choice, and I can’t imagine that would be too weird but I definitely proud of who I am now.

Sharing a flat in India: Good or Bad

On my arrival in Delhi, I decided to share a flat with 3 other people, the experience was ok. Until they started bringing other people and you noticed that you don’t share anything in common. It was quite a weird experience itself as I don’t feel like the type of guy who can share a flat. I have my own rules and to share a flat with someone else might be a little difficult for me. So based on my experience and others that I could remember these are the good and the bad to share a flat:

Good

1. The rent can be expensive when you are a student, the best way to save money is sharing a flat with other so that you can have some money in your pocket. Believe me India is not as cheap as people have told you.

2. It’s a great way to meet other people living in India. Your flat mates, who lived here longer than you, can introduce you to other people and socialize also.

3. You learn new kind of respects which you were not doing at home.

4. The possibility that your roommates becomes like family for you and help you in time of need.

Bad

1. No respect for others’ belongings whatsoever,

2. Noisy, believe me when you live in another country, in particularly India, noise nuisance are not really tolerated.

3. Lazy and dirty, if you come from a house where you used to clean every time it is difficult to adjust with that.

4. You share nothing in common with your roommates, intellectually, politically or spiritually, that will be a big ordeal for you to share a flat with them.

5. Your origins might be a factor, well what I mean is that if you want to share a flat with others here and respond to ads on internet, they might reject you because of your origins. It’s sad but true.

6. Rent: here it means that most of the times your roommates will either pay the rent late which means that you will need to pay for that by yourself and they might not reimburse you.

7. Overcrowded: it means that it might happen that you will share a flat and sometimes a room with a lot of people. I have heard that sometimes people share a flat of 3 BHK with 7 people.

8. Forget your privacy: it means that when you live with other people don’t expect a lot of privacy; it’s difficult to live with other people and expect to keep your total privacy.

Well, these were my good’s and the big list of bad when it comes to share a flat, and I hoped that it helped you to think about it. When it comes to that matter you might want to think many times why you want to share the flat and hope that you will have a better experience. Also this is based on what I have heard from others and some people had better experience, so it varies from one to another.

How to travel in India

Well, depending on the city that you are living, you can take these public transportations depending on the availability, these transportations will help you to travel in India that you will use often during the time you will live here. Here they are:

Auto-rickshaw

Rickshaw-bicycle

Metro

Cab

Buses

Those transportations vary depending on the availability, in cities, for example, there is no metro in Pune, but it is available in Bangalore and New Delhi.

Pune and Bangalore

In Pune, taking an auto can be really expensive, as those drivers will try anything to rip you off because you are a foreigner, it happened to me more than once when I used to live there. The best way to avoid that, ask them to use the Meter right away and check if it is working, the starting price is 25 INR. You can take the buses, but it really depends on you, I prefer Delhi’s buses which are in better shape and most of them have A/C which I don’t think it is the case for the buses in Pune. To be honest, most of the foreigners that I know in Pune, have their own conveyance such as bikes or cars, as they were all tired to get ripped off by the autos, which are quite easier to find than cabs. In Bangalore, it is pretty much the same, but based on my short experience over there, the auto drivers don’t overcharge like in Pune and some of the people that I have met there barely have their own conveyance, as they have now a metro and buses. So, I was not complaining that much and it was quite fair for me.

New Delhi

Well, in Delhi, all those transports mentioned above are available in different areas of the cities. Unless, you are new the auto drivers cannot fool you that much like in Pune, they may charge between 10-100 INR more than the actual charge but compared to Pune where I was charged 2-10 times more consider it as a blessing. But if you don’t want to be overcharged, it is simple, ask them to put the meter, if they say “no” just try the next one and the last solution is to bargain which is quite common in India. Unfortunately, in Noida and Gurgaon the autos are not equipped with a meter on their vehicle, this means that you will probably need to come to bargain again with the driver for the price. There is a metro in New Delhi that goes to most the port of Delhi, but only some part of Gurgaon and Noida and the fare fore for the metro varies depending on the distance. Buses are in better quality in Delhi, I normally take the red and orange buses due to their quality and the fare for the bus varies between 5-25 INR depending on the distance.

The main issue that I have with the bus in Delhi is that, compared to the metro which has a map in each station, the buses are not provided with it and taking the buses is one of the most confusing things that I have ever done.

When you don't know which bus to take

If I have to take the bus I have to use Google map on my phone to know which bus to take, without that it’s useless. I wish the government will improve that service, so that it would be helpful for foreigners that want to use that type of transportation.

I would recommend you to take a cab if you are going out at night, you can take also an auto. But most of the time late night it can be quite difficult to find an auto during that time. So I would recommend you to download an app like Uber/Ola cab and take a cab or commute with your friends if they have a car.

When it comes to the cycles which I have used in Delhi only, are only available for short distance and the cost can vary also depending on the distance and so forth, the lower fare is around 20 INR.

So basically, here are the modes of transportation you can choose whatever may suit you and it would go well. Please note that the fares of the transportation by metro or buses vary depending on the distance.

Famous places to visit in Delhi: Hauz Khas Complex

One of the places that I love to go in Delhi is Hauz Khas Village, so that I could visit the famous Hauz Khas complex. It is the backbone of Hauz Khas which is the most affluent neighborhood in South Delhi which is located in the center and offers both rural and urban environment.

Hauz Khaz village is area full of diverse businesses, from art gallery show, to local shops, and a lot of restaurants and bars which can be quite expensive but you definitely need to check out that place and take a bite. Or you can go see the Reindeer in the park it is just near the entrance of Hauz Khas village. The area itself, the crowd is a thing that I have difficult to describe but it’s so rich itself from locals to foreigners. Now, one of the things that I love to visit over there is the Hauz Khas Complex, which is just next to the village. Hauz Khas Complex was a part of Siri, it was the second medieval citiy of Indiaa of the Delhi Sultanate of Allaaudin Khijo Dynasty around the 13^th century. It has houses with water tank, an Islamic seminary, a mosque, a tomb and pavilions built around an urbanized village with medieval history traced to the thirteenth century of Delhi Sultanate reign. The meaning of Hauz Khas is the Royal tank. The reservoir was built by Alauddin khilji during his reign in the 13^th century, in order to provide water to the new built fort and the city of Siri or second city of Delhi. Initially, it was identified as Hauz-i-Alai after Khilji. Then Firoz Shh Tughlaq, in the 14^th century, re-excavated the silted tank and cleared the clogged inlet channels. During that time many buildings such as Mosque, Madrasa and tombs were built overlooking the water tank. The tomb contains the remains of Firoz Shah’s tombs, son and grandson’s and pivots the L-shaped building complex that overlooks the tank.

Madrasa was established around the 14^th Century; it was also one of the leading institutions of Islamic leaarning in the Delhi Sultanate and considered to be the largest and best equipped Islamic seminary in the world. The main ones were in number of three during the reing of Firoz Shah’s which one of them was at Hauz Khas. It was built in L-Shape as one contiguous structure on the south and east edges of the reservoir complex.

I was able to visit these, most of the time that I go to Hauz Khas and last time I visited the park to visit the reindeer. I would definitely recommend you to visit that place, it is really something that needs to be checked out and you can go there by Metro on yellow line and get down at Hauz Khas Metro or just take an auto-rickshaw/cab and it will be fine.
